School ends its 2:57, you now have sports. Sports end at 5:00, now you begin to walk home. Now it’s 5:03, and you realize you have homework. You start to calculate how long it's going to take you. You say “well this will take about 30 minutes overall.”  Little do you know it's been three hours and you have only finished one thing. Does this scenario sound familiar? Read on to see how to tackle this problem!

Doing your homework does not have to take three hours, it can take one hour. One factor that may make your homework last longer is procrastination. Procrastinating is a big problem when it comes to doing homework, so set breaks for yourself. There are actually apps you can download that ration time for you and help to tell you when you should take a break. A good one of these apps is “focus keeper.” This is a free app that could help you pace your homework time. If you are able to pace your homework time, you may be able to complete all your work in a reasonable time.
Another thing you should try to do is find a good spot to do your homework. Do not do your homework in a really comfortable spot because you will have a better chance of falling asleep, especially after a long school day. You should be consistent with your homework spot. Whether it be in the school library or at your dining room table, make sure it's the same spot every day. When you find a spot to do your homework, you should bring a snack with you. When doing homework do not have candy, it makes it hard to concentrate. Instead, try fruit and a glass of water.
We all usually have a lot of homework, so a good technique would be to do a hard assignment first and then an easier task. You want to keep this pattern going until you finish everything.
Personally, when doing school work silence drives me absolutely crazy. I prefer to listen to music instead of watching some video online. People all have different preferences for study music. Some people like music with words and lyrics, or you can listen to music without lyrics like classical music. Whatever helps you is what you should go with. If you get too tempted with music to sing along or hum, you can try a podcast of some sort.
Lastly, I recommend having a system of organization for completed homework. You should make places in your binders or folders of where you are going to put your unfinished and finished work. Make sure to formulate your system around your work space. Homework doesn't have to take hours just stay organized and you will do great!

How long do you spend on homework per night?
