A: First of all, don't keep thinking that you’ll do it later because eventually there will be no time left. To resolve that problem, you can plan to do specific things at planned times of the day. If you know you have homework in all subjects of homework and you have sports practice from 6:30pm-8:00pm, then it would be smart to get home from school around 3:10pm and start homework while eating a small snack. You might then finish your homework around 5:00pm to 5:15pm and still have an hour and fifteen minutes left to get ready. You might want to get ready for practice by preparing a water bottle and/or an equipment bag (if needed). When you are finished, you might have spare time so you can finish anything that you wanted to finish earlier, or do anything that you want to do now. Think back to when you came home from school and how much you just got done. You will realize how much you have accomplished in about two hours! When you sit around and say that you will do this or that later, you will end up procrastinating and really getting nothing much done. If you focus and pay attention to the priorities and minimize insignificant things, you will get much more done and possibly in even a shorter amount of time! 11/09/18 Q: How can I study for an upcoming quiz or test? A:Think about when you study. Do you study alone or do you study in a group? If you study alone, block out the distractions and follow any of these tips for studying: -Take breaks. Putting too much information in your head at once will just cram everything and then the next time you study you will not remember anything. -Test yourself. As you are studying, make sure to go back and make sure that you understand everything that you are practicing and that you have that information in your head. -Don't multitask! When you think you can do more than one thing at the same time, you actually end up doing one thing specifically more than the other. Studying for a test is not a time where you should be trying to do that. You might get distracted and won't be able to process that information in your head anymore. - Stay Organized! Staying organized is the key to studying. Make sure that you have time set out for studying and all your things are organized or it will make studying stressful. Following these tips will make studying helpful! If you are working in a group, you might want to follow some of these tips to help you along the way: -Do not be a part of a studying group with any of your close friends. With you in a group with close friends whether you notice it or not, the friends always end up talking. No matter how hard they try it just happens! The advice is to stay away from people you know you will have other conversations with, when studying. -Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you. You might wonder why this is being mentioned. You think that you will suddenly feel left out and might think your dumb or stupid, but bringing people that are smarter than you closer to you will benefit you. It can increase the chance of you trying harder, focusing more and most of all studying better. -Find a quiet place for the group. The library is a good place to study in a group because you already know how loud you can speak and how focused you will be.You know that if you are caught off-guard, things might not end well. -Work together! That is the whole point of the “group”. Ask each other questions, name any concerns, think about how your questions might help the group, and listen to others. 10/25/18 Q: How do you manage sports, homework, and studying? A: Keep an organized schedule to plan out your activities. Use your time wisely. For example, try to do homework at lunch, studying in extra help, and then sports after school. Use any free time you have to study or finish up your homework. Q: What is the best way to stay in contact with friends over the weekend? A: If you live close to your friends, you could walk to their house and hang out. If you´re busy during the weekends or your friends are busy, use your free time to facetime or text them.
